Cohorts
Revenue retention grouped by acquisition month.
The Cohorts report (sidebar → Cohorts) groups customers by the month of their first paid subscription and tracks how much of that cohort's starting MRR is still there in each later month. It shows the same numbers three ways.
Cohort MRR
A stacked area chart of every cohort's MRR per calendar month. Older cohorts sit at the bottom, so the height of the stack is total MRR and each band is what one acquisition month still contributes.
Cohort retention chart
One line per cohort, plotted against months since first purchase. Every line starts at 100%; the slope shows how fast a cohort loses (or gains, through expansion) revenue. Use it to compare the shape of cohorts and to spot outliers.
Hovering a month lists every cohort at that offset. The cohort whose line you are on is shown in bold, and clicking the point opens that cohort's customer details.
Cohort retention table
The same curves as a grid, for reading off exact values:
- Rows: acquisition cohorts, oldest first.
- Initial: the cohort's MRR (or customer count) in its first month, the 100% the row is measured against.
- Columns: months since first purchase, starting at 0 for the cohort's own first month (so 0 is always 100%). A cell is the share of the initial MRR still there that many months later. Cells are shaded on one blue scale, the same in every table: 100% sits in the middle, growth above it darkens up to 120%, loss below it pales down to 0%.
- Weighted avg.: the bottom row weights each cohort by its initial MRR, counting only cohorts that have already reached that month.
Empty cells are months the cohort has not reached yet.
Two controls in the card's header change how the cells read. The CMRR / Customers toggle picks what a cohort retains: its first-month MRR or its first-month customers. Percent off shows the amounts or counts themselves instead of shares. The shading follows the share in both cases, so a column looks the same whichever way you read it. The weighted-average row stays a share.
Hover a cell for the cohort month, the month it is compared to, and both the share and the amount. Click it (or the initial value) to see the cohort's customers in that month: who is still paying, who has churned, and the retained total.
All three respect the date range (which cohorts are included), the CMRR / MRR switch, and the product filter.
